Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated on August 15th, commemorates the occasion when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was assumed body and soul into Heaven at the end of her earthly life. According to tradition, Mary’s Assumption was a divinely granted privilege as a reward for her sinless life and her unique role as the Mother of God. The feast highlights Mary’s exalted position in the Church as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. The Assumption is not explicitly recorded in the biblical text, but it has been an integral part of Christian belief and devotion since ancient times. On this day, Catholics and many other Christian denominations honor Mary’s unique relationship with her Son, Jesus Christ, and her ultimate destiny to share in His glory in Heaven.
