Feast of the Visitation Of The Blessed Virgin Mary

The Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a significant celebration in the Catholic Church, commemorating the visit of Mary, the mother of Jesus, to her cousin Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist. The feast is observed on May 31st. According to the Gospel of Luke, Mary, upon learning of her own miraculous pregnancy, traveled to the hill country to visit Elizabeth. When Mary greeted her, Elizabeth felt the baby in her womb leap for joy, and she exclaimed the words now known as the “Magnificat,” a hymn of praise and gratitude to God. The feast emphasizes the profound joy, humility, and solidarity between the two expectant mothers. It also highlights Mary’s role as the bearer of Christ and her willingness to serve and assist others, embodying the virtues of charity and compassion.
