Saints Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers born in the 3rd century in Arabia. They were renowned physicians and devout Christians who practiced medicine without charging any fees, offering their services to the sick and needy as an expression of their Christian faith. In 303 AD, during the Diocletian persecution, they were arrested for their unwavering Christian beliefs and for refusing to make offerings to Roman gods. Despite enduring torture, Saints Cosmas and Damian refused to renounce their faith and continued to profess their dedication to Christianity. The authorities eventually sentenced them to death, and they were martyred by beheading. Saints Cosmas and Damian are often invoked as patron saints of physicians, surgeons, and healthcare workers. They are celebrated for their exemplary Christian virtues and their commitment to the principles of charity and compassion in the practice of medicine.
