The Holy September Martyrs

The Holy September Martyrs, also known as the Blessed Martyrs of Carmes, refers to a group of 191 Roman Catholics who were tragically killed during the September Massacres of 1792 in Paris, during the French Revolution. These massacres were marked by a wave of violence and anti-religious sentiment that led to the deaths of many clergy and religious figures. The martyrs included priests, monks, nuns, and laypeople who were imprisoned at the Carmes Prison in Paris. They were accused of opposing the Revolution and were subjected to brutal treatment and mass executions. The victims remained steadfast in their faith, facing death with courage and conviction. The Holy September Martyrs are remembered for their devotion to their beliefs and their sacrifice in the face of persecution.
